uahin - Royal Beach Resort

December 3 - 8, 2000

We spent the last few days of our 17 day trip in the beach resort of Huahin, which is just a few hours southwest by train from Bangkok on Thailand's Gulf coast.

The train ride was pleasant enough, even though we had been unable to get first class and so didn't have any air-conditioning. As it turned out the fans plus the air from open windows worked just fine to keep us cool.

Our train arrived in the late afternoon and we trundled our bags from the train station into town and checked into a pre-booked hotel (thanks Jhap!). After unpacking some, we set out to walk over to the beach to find something to eat. We found ourselves a nice beach-side restaurant where we ate some good fish and listened to the water lapping at the pier that we were sitting on.

The beach was nice as much as we could see of it, but in the end we made only one very brief excursion to the beach because the next day, we had to look for another hotel and managed to find one that gave us a room right next to the swimming pool and there spent most of the next three days, happy to just laze around, read our books, and enjoy the cool, cool water of the pool whenever appropriate. Sad to say that we took pretty bad sunburns back to China with us.
