azers in the 1920 Census

The New Americans

American Census records are made public at the detail level 72 years after they are taken. Thus, this year (2002) the 1930 census data was released, added to the 1920 and previous data. Since the Kazer family arrived in 1913, the earliest data available is in the 1920 census. There we learn that they are still in Chicago, their original destination; that the Kosyrowsky and Kosyrowskaya (for the women in the family) names have been replaced by the shorter, more American sounding, Kazer; and that some of the children have changed their names too: Mirla has become Mae, Feige has become Frances, Broche has become Bettie, and Pine has become Ben. There is also a new member of the family, Esther, born in 1915.

All the family, except for Esther who was by birth a citizen, were naturalized in ???
