Ancestors and Descendants

Once you start a family tree you find there are many names and many trees to work on. The Komisars present an interesting question: Why do we spell it that way, and not with two m's and two s's (Kommissar) closer to the English cognate? The answer is that we follow the practice of the Komisar family in Israel; it is their name. And why do they spell it that way? We should, but haven't asked. The probable answer is that Hebrew makes do with single consonants where English doubles them.
