From the coast at Port Fairy we headed north toward the Grampian National Park. There we spent one night camping and two in the YHA (Youth Hostel of Australia). We shared our campsite with a very large group of high school students, who seemed to be divided into three sub-groups: on a given day one sub-group would bicycle while the other two hiked. Our first morning we drove to withing 250 meters of the top of Mt William (1167 m) and spent an hour going up. On arrival we had no view because the would (as we saw it) was in a cloud. But before we left the cloud lifted and we got wonderful view. On the way down we met three French girls; all are living and working in Australia for a year of internship in their studies. After the hike we moved into the YHA and the next morning we hiked up to the Pinaccle, another fine view spot; this time of the valley where we'd camped and of the YHA. On the morning we left we hiked to Mitchell's Falls. They are not as impressive as any in Yosemite, but still very pretty.
