We spent the first seven weeks of  2001 in Southern China. Our first few weeks were in Shenzhen finishing off work for ZTE. From there were were off to Guangzhou for an in-depth discovery of that city. We really like it. Then we wound our way through Guangdong and Guangxi to the Vietnamese border. Along the way we got to see the home of the Taiping rebellion, lots of karst country, celebrate Gerry's birthday at a fancy hotel in Nanning that had a Valentine's day special, see a waterfall on the Chinese-Vietnamese border and inadvertently cross into Vietnam, and see very ancient rock paintings above a remote river.
