Too bad we didn't discover the Alsace day trip fare earlier. We would certainly have made an additional outing or two. As it was, after we discovered that on weekends up to five people can travel together anywhere in Haut Alsace (souther Alsace) for €17 (or all of Alsace, including Northern Alsace and Strasbourg) for €26 we made a day trip from Basel to Belfort in the morning and Colmar in the afternoon, each time passing through and changing trains at Mulhouse.
