When we left the coolness of Boquette, we had no intention of stopping Santiago, a rather hot, dusty crossroads town on the Interamericana with little of distinction to recommend it. However, as we drove into town Gerry caught sight of the magic word "Piscina" and asked me if I would like to go swimming. I immediately said yes and so he did a quick about turn and pulled into the parking lot of the Gran David Hotel. We looked at a room, looked at the pool and decided that this would be a nice place to take an exercise break in.

Altogether we spent four days here, one of them taking us up to Santa Fe, the others spent lazing by the pool, watching tremendous rainstorms and enjoying the local wildlife. We left when we got tired of the restaurant's menu and when the pool cleaner couldn't keep up with the thunderstorms.
