At Sterling Annual Holiday Party

January

  • New Years day is celebrated with a hike on Sandy Hook. Rather than hoped for zero degrees with snow instead it's near balmy weather.
  • February

  • We celebrate Gerry's birthday with a day trip in 20F weather to see whales.
  • After much research we get a 300 Mhz Pentium II with 64 Meg
  • March

  • We time our skiing by the snowfall and discover Alegria Albergo at Windham ski.
  • Gerry really starts studying Corel Draw with the intention of making a web site to sell 88 Bruce Rd.
  • Gerry sees an "Open House" ad for a company called Mystech and decides to go.
  • April

  • Gerry interviews at Mystech; they don't seem interested. We hike 15 miles in one day with the Remys and our legs know it.
  • The web page to see our house is ready and we publish it. No response.
  • We place an ad in the newspaper, go to Princeton, and come home to 7 calls on the machine. We have an offer two days later.
  • May

  • Gerry is offered and turns down Mystech job. We agree to sell 88 Bruce Road. Gerry, pushed by Jan, reverses himself and accepts at Mystech.
  • We leave for two weeks in California, including Gerry's 35 Caltech reunion.
  • On May 19 Gerry starts work at Mystech. Packing Bruce Rd really starts. Mystech is bought by Sterling.
  • June

  • Packing and more packing and more packing and two days of yard sales.
  • Our deadline is June 15; on June 13 we host the new owners at a party and introduce them to the neighbors. We miss the deadline by one day.
  • On June 16 the house is no longer ours and we move temporarily to Moshe's.
  • After two weeks we find a place to rent.
  • July

  • We move into 44 Green Meadow, with a very long day of labor. The house is a jumble for days on end.
  • We start our summer lives on the deck and Jan starts gardening in a completely new environment. Her birthday is a relaxed day.
  • August

  • Out of the blue Jan is offered an interview by SDI to be a contractor at Tellium, makers of telecom equipment. She doesn't like the place so insists on a high hourly rate. They offer it, so she is stuck. She starts and slowly grows to like people.
  • September

  • Jan is very busy sorting out Tellium.
  • Gerry thinks that his team is nearly done with the Maps & Overlays software and goes to INRI in San Diego and then two days in Ensenada, Baja Calfornia
  • October

  • With our DINK salaries (double income, no kids) we treat ourselves to our best ever Metropolitan seats - we can actually see the singers without glasses.
  • Gerry finds that Maps & Overlays is far behind.
  • November

  • After twenty years we see Nader and Anne Marie Movassaghi, visiting from Iran.
  • Jan spends the end of the month in England with her family.
  • After Thanksgiving Gerry starts three weeks of 12 hour days as Sterling tries to get software out only one month late.
  • December

  • As usual we did NOT do our Xmas letter early so we get to work in earnest.
  • We have SDI 20th aniversary party, Sterling Awards banquet, and Tellium and Lockheed Christmas parties.
  • MCS delivers its code the day before Xmas holidays.
  • We cut short Sugarbush ski trip because of cold and bad snow.
