Our two trips to Coahuila State were both very brief and both involved doctor's visits for Gerry. On each visit we spent two nights in the capital of Saltillo, a large city with a pleasant historic center, surrounded by magnificent mountains that in April we couldn't see for cloud cover (or was it pollution) but that in October we saw in all their glory and could hardly believe that we hadn't noticed them on our first visit.

During our April visit, we also drove west through the state to the grape-growing city of Parras and then on via Torreon, a vast industrial city, for a brief lunch-stop before continuing on into Gomez-Palacio, Torreon's twin city on the other bank of the river ??. Our stay was brief, but we left with an impression of desert beauty enhanced by the cactus photos that we brought away with us.
