Cristo Rey of Torreon
Cristo Rey of Torreon

We spent but a brief few hours in Torreon on the way from Parras to Mapimi in Durango State. Perhaps the most notable event from our point of view was the lunch that we ate in a certain US chain restaurant. We both chose salads of one kind or another at Applebees and were rewarded by giant plates of nothing but fresh greens. It was very pricey by Mexican standards, but oh, what joy to have fresh veggies again!

After lunch we also took out some time to drive up to the top of the hill to take a closer look at the statue of the Cristo Rey and, more important, to take a look at the view that the Cristo Rey had of the city below. It was spectacular, but we had to take a glance and then rush off on our way to the suspension bridge and mine of Durango's Mapimi.
