We had been in almost every state but we had never been to Louisiana until this trip. Not even a change of airplanes, as we had made for our only trip to Hawaii and Jan's only trip to Texas. Somehow the stories of Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street, and the Old Quarter in general has never resonated with us.

Well, we were, if not sold, then at least seduced a bit. We came away with an appreciation of Huey Long's dry wit, a near love of the tall Capitol Building he built, a deeper understanding of the Battle of New Orleans (which Andrew Jackson did win and which was not in New Oreans), a jealous desire to own an old home in New Orlean's garden district , and, yes, even and, an enjoyment of the old French Quarter .

The photo, by the way, was taken near the site of the Battle of New Orleans. We had wandered down to the river, just as the boat was about to depart to return to New Orleans.
