We arrived at Charles de Gaule airport, which is northeast of the
Center, about half-way to Compiegne.
We rented a car to carry our five boxes
of goods.
Since it was cheaper to keep the car for five days than for one,
we did that.
So our first three full days we made trips outside of the city:
First to Fontainebleau (south), then to Chartres (southwest), and finally
to Giverny and points west, including Evreux.
Towards the middle of our stay there was a total solar eclipse that
passed just south of Compiegne - Soissons - Reims.
So we rented a car for
one day and drove north-northeast to see the eclipse, which was total at
about 12:30 pm.
Afterwards we went on to Reims and saw the cathedral.
Our place in at 71 rue de la Mare was in the 20e arrondisment, just
south of the border with the 19e.
It was a 25 minute walk to the Cimetière
du Père-Lachaise and about an hour walk to the center of the city, i.e.,
the
Louvre and Notre-Dame.
