Uruapan del Progresso is best know to the foreign tourist (i.e., the Lonely Planet readers) for its location in volcano country, in particular for its proximity to Paracutin Volcan. But it is worthy of a visit for itself. It has some nice colonial buildings on a lovely square and is the home to what must be Mexico's smallest national park, a canyon on the edge of town that has been made into a lovely landscaped park.
