In our naive way of thinking Shikoku, because it is off the beaten track and not particularly accessible, would be another Japan -- a more rural and slower Japan. Perhaps it was, but the density of 7-11 and other convenience stores was rather high. The "wild interior" was not any wilder than the Poconos in Pennsylvania and they are wild only if you think hordes of families with screaming kids clogging the once-rural roads are wild.
