Remains of the Termessos Theater
Remains of the Termessos Theater

We can certainly agree with Lonely Planet that the best way to arrive at Termessos is on foot having climbed the mountain that it sits atop. We however, came the lazy way, driving up the road in our rented car just before heading out to Side. We brought with us a picnic lunch of delicious spinach pie provided by our landlady from the Ani Pansyon which we enjoyed in the early spring sunshine with a temple to our backs.

The remains at Termessos aren't as extensive or as well-restored as those at many other sites, but there aren't many that have a site that can be compared. After parking the car, we had to walk about ten minutes up a rocky path before we spied the first columns of the former gymnasium. Much later we arrived on the plateau and saw the theater pictured in the photo. Nearby, we got to admire the wonderful location: high up on a hill, it has views all the way down to the Mediterranean. Awesome.
