Ticket to the Troy Site

We had seen signs to Troy on the bus to Çanakkale but had put off the pleasure of a visit until we could come without all of our bags. And that we did almost at the end of our stay in Çanakkale.

Our guide book wasn't very enthusiastic about the site, dismissing it as piles of unidentified rocks. Our reaction was different. First, we learned much about Troy that we had not known and second we enjoyed the fact that the site is large and required some walking and clambering about. We also enjoyed the fact that our fellow tourists were from every part of the world, but especially from nearby and recently liberated and enriched Eastern Europe.

Unfortunately, as with so many places in Turkey, we were without our computers and for that reason Gerry was unable to download his full memory sticks and unable therefore to take any more photos. He felt as though his left arm had been cut off.
